saaristomeri - Finnish archipelago
Another book I bought at the Rotterdam second hand book market. Strange and dreamy Finnish landscapes. There was an exhibit in the Rotterdam Maritime Museum that looked exactly like this landscape. I wonder if it's still there.

Saaristomme on kaunis!

Tuuli humisee. Tyrskyt lyövät ulkokarien kalliorantoihin, jotka vi-
vahtelevat graniitin punertavissa ja gneissin harmaissa värisävyissä.
Lokit leijailevat auringon kilossa kiiltelevien ulapoiden yllä. Omalla
tavallaan ne laulavat ylistystä elämälle.

Samanlaisina kuuluivat luonnon äänet jo kuusituhatta vuotta sit-
ten, kun Suomen saaristot alkoivat kohota kivikauden meren aalloista.
Luoto sinne, toinen tänne ilmestyi syvyyksistä tuulen piestäväksi.
Mutta maan kohoaminen jatkui. Luodot laajenivat. Luonto juotti
niitä yhteen suuremmiksi saariksi. Tuuli, aallot ja linnut toivat saa-
rille kasvillisuutta. Syntyi viheriöiviä lehtoja. Maa puk eu tui ruohoon
ja kukkiin.
